Facebook will tomorrow start allowing prominent public figures to verify their accounts, TechCrunch reports.
Facebook has always asked people to be up-front about their real identities when using the site. But it’s going to display a preferred pseudonym or nickname instead of their birth name for the verified account holders.
The verified account holders will gain more prominent placement in Facebook’s “People To Subscribe To” suggestions.
Facebook will manually approve alternative names to make sure individuals are really the celebrities, politicians, journalists, and so on they claim they are.
Twitter and Google+ already have this feature. In twitter verified account holders will get verified account badge. In Facebook they won’t get any special badge.
