Sunday 13, April – Libya’s interim PM resigns, government statement says.
Libya PM’s decision comes after an attack last night against him & his family. Residents in the area say a militia attacked the neighborhood.
Libya’s interim PM Abdullah al-Thanay handed in resignation to the parliament saying he had faced threats and could not continue just weeks after he was appointed to the position.
Few days back, Libya’s parliament tasked the interim prime minister “Abdullah al-Thinni” (Abdullah al-Thanay) with forming a new cabinet, weeks after ousting his predecessor for failing to rein in the lawlessness gripping the country.
A civil war and NATO-led military intervention in 2011 resulted in the ousting and death of the country’s former leader, Muammar Gaddafi.
Libya is currently undergoing political reconstruction, and is governed under an interim constitution drawn up by the National Transitional Council (NTC). Elections to a General National Congress were held on 7 July 2012, and the NTC handed power to the newly elected assembly on 8 August. The assembly has the responsibility of forming a constituent assembly to draft a permanent constitution for Libya, which will then be put to a referendum
And, the war crimes trial of two sons of Libya’s former dictator Muammar Gaddafi begins amid tight security in Tripoli on Monday, in a case causing sensation at home and controversy among rights groups.
