Google announced that it plans to shut down Its Social Networking service Orkut on Sept. 30
Orkut was launched early in 2004, the same year Facebook also founded.Facebook is now the world’s largest social network with 1.28 billion users.
Orkut is popular in Brazil,India and a few other countries.
“Over the past decade, YouTube, Blogger and Google+ have taken off, with communities springing up in every corner of the world. Because the growth of these communities has outpaced Orkut’s growth, we’ve decided to bid Orkut farewell,” Google said in a blog post of Orkut.
Starting today, it will not be possible to create a new Orkut account.Existing Orkut users will be able to log in and use their account like normal until Sept. 30.
People can export their profile data, community posts and photos using Google Takeout until September 2016.
“If you don’t want your posts or name to be included in the community archive, you can remove Orkut permanently from your Google account,” Google said.
