News website Huffington Post launched its India edition on Monday in association with Times of India Group.
The Huffington Post is an American online news aggregator and blog which was founded by Arianna Huffington in May 2005 and launched on May 9th. On February 7, 2011, AOL acquired the Huffington Post for US$315 million, making Arianna Huffington editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post Media Group.
The Indian version is the 13th international edition.
“More and more people (in India) are going to be able to access news on their mobile devices,” Arianna Huffington, the website’s editor-in-chief, said at a Delhi launch event on Monday. “It’s a great opportunity for us.”
“We are very excited to launch Huffington Post India. Huffington Post is the first real digital-first news success story globally, and their impact is seen across the world. We look forward to bringing HuffPo’s conversational approach to news to a large section of Indian audience,” said Satyan Gajwani, CEO of Times Internet (TIL), the digital arm of The Times of India.
“We`d like to put China on the roadmap, we hope we can do business there,” said The Huffington Post chief executive Jimmy Maymann.
Maymann said The Huffington Post expected to reach a deal with a Chinese partner by early 2016.
