A Canadian Start-up company “H+ Technology” has developed a tabletop device called Holus which converts any digital content into 3D holograms. It does this by projecting media within a glass pyramid, creating an image that appears 3D from any angle.
They have launched a Kickstarter Campaign last week with a goal of $50,000 but it reached $222,973 after a week.
Holus provides a blend between the digital and real world by converting any digital content into a 3D holographic experience.
We can use Holus at home to learn, collaborate and have fun. It also opens up opportunities for developers to create their own holographic experience.
There are two versions of Holus available- a home edition with two smart phone charging docks and a Holus Pro. Holus Pro includes an HDMI port and SDK tool so that developers can unleash a world of new possibilities.
Holus can be used as a family entertainment system, business tool or for developers to create their own holographic experiences. Holus provides a natural and intuitive way of engaging with information.
Holus enhanced interaction promotes memory retention and also health by encouraging users to move around and can also predict a user’s position through motion tracking. It aims to create a “social campfire” experience that brings people together without having them miss out on real life moments.
We can connect Holus to other input devices such as Leap Motion in order to interact directly with the content in a natural and intuitive way using gesture recognition.
While the company expects to deliver units starting in Q2 2016, they have already demoed a working version of the device at multiple technology conferences. Additionally, the team has already created a larger, room sized version which they installed at the BC Ronald Mcdonald House to create an interactive holographic experience for children staying there.
Holus can be preordered for $850 on Kickstarter now.
