Google officially introduced “Undo Send” feature in Gmail

Google has tested the “Undo Send” feature since March 2009 as a popular feature in Gmail Labs, but now the company officially announced that the ‘Undo Send’ feature as a formal setting in Gmail on the web.

‘Undo Send’ feature allows people to cancel a sent mail if they have second thoughts immediately after sending. The feature is turned off by default for those not currently using the Labs version, and can be enabled from the General tab in Gmail settings.

Follow these steps to activate the “Undo send” Emails feature in Gmail.

  • Log in to your Gmail account
  • Click the Settings icon at the upper right corner
  • In the General tab, search for Undo send option
  • Click the check box to Enable Undo Send.
  • Select the dropdown to set the Send cancellation period. You can choose 5, 10, 20 or 30 seconds.
  • Click the Save Changes button.
  • Now send a sample email to test this feature.
  • After sending an email, you’ll see a message that says: “Your message has been sent. Undo. View Message.”
  • To prevent the message from being sent, click the Undo link.
  • Gmail stops the message from sending out and displays it in case you wish to make any changes and then resend it or simply close the message.

“Undo Send is not currently available on mobile, so you’re out of luck if you want to retract an email you sent via your phone. But there’s good news: Google said it will roll out the feature to mobile in the future but didn’t elaborate on the timeline.”
