Friday, July 31, 2015., Microsoft made its new operating system Windows 10 available from July 29, 2015 to customers in over 190 markets.
Microsoft reported that Windows 10 had been installed on more than 14 million devices by 24 hours after it is rolled out.
“We are carefully rolling out Windows 10 in phases, delivering Windows 10 first to our Windows Insiders. While we now have more than 14 million devices running Windows 10, we still have many more upgrades to go before we catch up to each of you that reserved your upgrade. Rest assured we are working 24×7 to continue the upgrade process and are prioritizing the quality of your upgrade experience over anything else.”
Microsoft said they have also worked closely with retailers, including Best Buy, Bic Camera, Croma, Currys/PC World, Elkjøp, Jarrir, Incredible Connection, Media Markt, Staples, Wal-Mart, Yamada, Yodobashi, and many more leading retailers from around the world on programs to help you upgrade. Tech Bench services offer support for your upgrade to Windows 10 and data migration services can help you move files from old PCs to new PCs.
Microsoft Stores offer Answer Desk services to assist you with your upgrade.
Microsoft makes Edge as a default browser in Windows 10, even when you’re updating from a system that previously used Chrome or Firefox as the default.
An Open Letter written by Mozilla’s CEO Chris Beard to Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella complaining about this as below,
“When we first saw the Windows 10 upgrade experience that strips users of their choice by effectively overriding existing user preferences for the Web browser and other apps, we reached out to your team to discuss this issue. Unfortunately, it didn’t result in any meaningful progress, hence this letter.
We appreciate that it’s still technically possible to preserve people’s previous settings and defaults, but the design of the whole upgrade experience and the default settings APIs have been changed to make this less obvious and more difficult. It now takes more than twice the number of mouse clicks, scrolling through content and some technical sophistication for people to reassert the choices they had previously made in earlier versions of Windows. It’s confusing, hard to navigate and easy to get lost.”
