Google has launched a new router “OnHub” that’s built for a new way to Wi-Fi, with its partner TP-LINK. OnHub gives you Wi-Fi that’s fast, secure, and easy to use.
Many of us keep our router on the floor and out of sight, where it doesn’t work as well. Google replaced unruly cords and blinking lights with internal antennas and subtle, useful lighting, so you’ll be happy placing OnHub out in the open, where your router performs its best.
OnHub’s circular antenna design provides reliable Wi-Fi coverage in more directions in your home. The 13 antennas (six 2.4GHz antennas, six 5GHz antennas, and a congestion-sensing antenna) are arranged in a unique circular pattern. The cylindrical shaped OnHub device is available in blue and black color.
During setup, OnHub searches the airwaves and selects the best channel for the fastest connection. A unique antenna design and smart software keep working in the background, automatically adjusting OnHub to avoid interference and keep your network at peak performance. You can even prioritize a device, so that your most important activity — like streaming your favorite show — gets the fastest speed.
According to TP-Link,
Each antenna is paired with a perpendicularly oriented partner antenna so OnHub can select the polarization delivering the strongest signal for each device in your home. OnHub also features a front-facing antenna reflector that acts like a satellite dish enhancing Wi-Fi range in that direction.
OnHub makes it simple to set up and manage your Wi-Fi, all from the Google On app, available on Android or iOS.
According to Newegg,
“OnHub provides smooth streaming and speedy downloads for all of your devices, speaks in a language you understand, and keeps getting better. The Google On app is available for Android 4.0 or higher and iOS 7 or higher. It weighs about 1.91b.”
The Google On app tells you how much bandwidth your devices are using, lets you run a network check, and if there’s an issue with your Wi-Fi, the app offers suggestions to help. And, instead of lost passwords and sticky notes, it even reveals your password with a single tap and lets you text or email it to friends.
OnHub connects with your laptop or tablet through 802.11a/b/g/n/ac. OnHub gives you Wi-Fi at a speed of up to 1900 Mbps by supporting both 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies.
It has 4GB of storage space, so there’s plenty of space for latest updates. It automatically updates with new features and the latest security upgrades, without interrupting your connection.
Google said, OnHub can support smart devices in the future that you bring into your home, whether they use Bluetooth® Smart Ready, Weave, or 802.15.4.
Google also plans to design new OnHub devices with other hardware partners.
OnHub is now available for pre-order for $199.99 from online retailers in the U.S. including the Google Store, TP Link Store, Newegg, FRYS.COM, Amazon, and Walmart.com. It will be available for sale in retail stores in the U.S. and in Canada in the coming weeks.
Google said, “They will launch another device with its second partner, ASUS, later this year.”
