Friday, August 28, 2015., Facebook founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, has announced that the company reached an important milestone for the first time ever in a single day.
Facebook is used by one billion people in a single day (on Monday).
In October 2012, Facebook said it had one billion monthly users. Within 4 years, a big milestone touched by Facebook.
“On Monday, 1 in 7 people on Earth used Facebook to connect with their friends and family,” Mark wrote in his Facebook status.
As per Facebook’s Second Quarter 2015 Results, the world’s largest social networking site has an average of 968 million daily active users and 844 million active mobile users.
“Our community stands for giving every person a voice, for promoting understanding and for including everyone in the opportunities of our modern world.”
“It brings stronger relationships with those you love, a stronger economy with more opportunities, and a stronger society that reflects all of our values.”
The company founded in the year 2004, gives people the power to share and make the world more open and connected. People use Facebook to stay connected with friends and family, to discover what’s going on in the world, and to share and express what matters to them.
On reaching this milestone, many people have shared their story about “How facebook connects them.” Read below some user’s story and Mark Zuckerberg’s reply.
“User: Love how facebook connects people all around the globe, not just as friends, but also groups where people can connect. I found an amazing group of twins that had also lost their twin. Without Facebook I would have gone through my life thinking I was alone in my grief and loss. With the power of Facebook I have come to terms with losing my twin and made life long friends who have gone through the same pain as myself who understand exactly what it is like to lose a twin.
Mark: Thank you for sharing your story. This is why we build Facebook.”
“User: In the 2011 earthquake in Japan – my family wouldn’t have known that my kids and I were ok…or our whereabouts if it weren’t for FB. Normal email communication and phone lines were down, but thank goodness FB was up!
Mark: It’s amazing to hear this story. This is what motivates us to keep making Facebook better.”
“User: When I met you in September 2006 at 9 million users, I got the feeling there might be what could be called, say, a Facebook effect. You seemed to know this thing could be big. But who could have guessed how quickly it would become this! Congrats, and on to the next billion.”
Facebook launched Internet.org, to provide free basic internet services to countries with more than 150 million people for health, education, jobs and communication.
Recently, Facebook has announced its completely built solar powered unmanned plane “Aquila” that beams down internet connectivity from the sky.
