Aira Visual interpreter for the Blind uses Smart Glasses

Posted on January 10, 2017

There are an estimated 20 million blind and low-vision people in the United States, according to the American Foundation for the Blind.

For helping them, a San Diego based startup named Aira has developed a remote assistive technology. It connects the blind with a network of certified agents via wearable smart glasses and an augmented reality dashboard.

Whenever the blind person needs help he has to just activate his Aira smart glass with his hand.
On activating his Aira Smart Glass, a remote agent will start helping him using the live data streams from cameras, GPS, and other sensor systems from wearable platforms such as Google Glass and Pivothead. . The remote agent works with a mission control style dashboard where she can see what the blind person is looking at and location, from Google Maps. Then the agent can help him by talking to him.
