Mobile data is expensive for many people around the world. It’s hard to figure out where the data are spent. To make it easy, Google has released a smart new app named as “Datally“.
Datally is an upgraded version Google’s Triangle app, which was released on an experimental basis in Philippines in June 2017.
Google claims it garnered over 500,000 users, and helped them reduce their mobile data consumption by up to 30%.
Datally shows you how much data you’ve used over the course of your day, week, or month. It relies on your phone number to check how much data you have left in your plan, and uses a VPN to manage what data is allowed or restricted.
Datally helps users in three ways, which are as follows:
Understand your data:
The app allows you to see your usage on an hourly, daily, weekly or monthly basis and provides you with personalized recommendations for how you can save your mobile data.
Control your data:
Datally controls data usage by turning on the Data Saver bubble to block background data usage and track real-time data usage. It also allows users to block data with one tap in case an app’s data usage gets out of control
Save your data:
Datally provides users with the list of nearby public Wi-Fi spots, so that user can connect to the Wi-Fi and stop using mobile data.
Talking about the new app, Caesar Sengupta, Vice President, Next Billion Users, Google, in a blogpost said, “Mobile data is expensive for many people around the world. And what’s worse, it’s hard to figure out where it all goes. That’s why we built Datally, an app that helps you to control, save more and do more with your data. We’ve been testing Datally in the Philippines for the past few months, and people are saving up to 30 percent on their data.”
The other highlight of the app is bubbles feature. It is a hidden tool, which provides real-time update on data consumption of an app in one session and then shows the details on the home screen in a bubble-shaped pop-up.
Datally is only a data management app, unlike the now discontinued Opera Max app, which saved data consumption by compressing apps and webpages.
Datally requires regular monitoring by users, which can be annoying, but for users who are on slower mobile networks or have limited data cap, it can be helpful.
Datally’s Wi-Fi finder helps the users discover great Wi-Fi networks nearby with details like distance. Before connecting, they can see how other Datally users have rated the Wi-Fi network.
Google has been testing Datally in Philippines for the past few months, and people are saving up to 30 percent on their data. Now Datally is globally available on the Google play store for all phones running Android 5.0 (Lollipop) and higher.
