Google unveils Gemini, a MultiModal AI that outperforms GPT-4

Posted on December 7, 2023

Google has unveiled its next-generation AI model named Gemini which is built from the ground up for multimodality — reasoning seamlessly across text, images, video, audio, and code.

Gemini is the first model to outperform human experts on MMLU (Massive Multitask Language Understanding), one of the most popular methods to test the knowledge and problem-solving abilities of AI models.

Gemini is natively multimodal, which gives you the potential to transform any type of input into any type of output.

Introducing Gemini 1.0, our most capable and general AI model yet. Built natively to be multimodal, it’s the first step in our Gemini-era of models. Gemini is optimized in three sizes – Ultra, Pro, and Nano

Google Gemini comes in three different versions, each designed for a specific purpose:

1. Gemini Ultra: This is the most powerful version of Gemini, designed for highly complex tasks such as advanced coding, scientific research, and creative content generation. It requires significant computational resources and is currently only available to a limited number of users.

2. Gemini Pro: This is a more accessible version of Gemini, designed for a wider range of tasks such as writing, translation, and data analysis. It is currently being integrated into Google’s products and services, such as Search, Assistant, and Translate.

3. Gemini Nano: This is the lightest version of Gemini, designed for use on mobile devices. It can perform basic tasks such as answering questions, generating text, and translating languages. It is expected to be available to all users in the near future.

Here is a table summarizing the key differences between the three versions:

You can now try Gemini Pro in Bard for new ways to collaborate with AI. Gemini Ultra will come to Bard early next year in a new experience called Bard Advanced.

Google plans to integrate Gemini into various products and services, including Search, Assistant, and Translate. This will provide users with a more natural and intuitive way to interact with technology. Additionally, lightweight versions of Gemini will be made available to developers, allowing them to build innovative new AI applications and APIs.
