Reddit users have noticed that Apple appears to be slowing down old iPhones that have low-capacity batteries.
Many people showed the proof for Apple reducing the clock speed of iPhone with old batteries. It seems the CPU speed resumed to factory setting once after replacing the iPhone battery.
Some Reddit users are arguing that Apple is doing it intentionally to force the iphone users to upgrade their phone. So, they expect class action lawsuit against Apple.
Apple has confirmed the findings of reddit users, but it disputes the intention. It is saying that it is reducing the performance to avoid unexpected shutdown.
Its statement is saying as, “Our goal is to deliver the best experience for customers, which includes overall performance and prolonging the life of their devices. Lithium-ion batteries become less capable of supplying peak current demands when in cold conditions, have a low battery charge or as they age over time, which can result in the device unexpectedly shutting down to protect its electronic components. ”
But people are still accusing Apple. They expect Apple to be more transparent. If Apple had told this fact openly, iPhone users could have saved money by replacing battery instead of replacing the device itself.
