Google launches inexpensive Tablet “Nexus 7” with Jelly Bean Mobile OS ( Android 4.1)

Google has unveiled its own-branded Tablet Computer “Nexus 7” to compete with Apple’s iPad and Amazon’s Kindle Fire.

The Nexus 7 will be the first tablet computer to run Google’s latest “Jelly Bean” Android software (Android version 4.1).

Nexus 7 is having a 7-inch screen and it is priced at $199. (8GB moder). And, the 16GB device will be priced at $249.

The announcement about “Nexus 7” is made at Google’s I/O developer conference in San Francisco, California.

The Nexus 7 display can show images at high resolution (1280-by-800 pixels). The tablet has a front-facing camera and all the important connectivity options including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and NFC (near-field communication).

Nexus 7 was built by ASUS and comes with a NVIDIA® Tegra® 3 quad-core processor, meaning everything is faster.

Nexus 7 Tablet offers battery life of up to nine hours on video playback and 300 hours of standby time. The device is super thin, light weight (just 340 grams only) and portable, said Hugo Barra, director of product management for Android during a speech at the Google I/O conference.

And, Google “Nexus 7” comes with built-in Chrome browser.

Google promotes Nexus 7 with the slogan “The play ground is Open”.
It says,

“Nexus 7 was designed with gaming in mind. With heart pounding quad-core performance and sensors like a gyroscope and accelerometer — do a barrel roll then tilt, touch and tap your way to the top of the leaderboards while exploring over 600,000 apps and games available on Google Play.”

Nexus 7 was made for Google Play, so all the entertainment you love right in your hand: the world’s largest collection of eBooks, millions of songs, thousands of movies and TV shows, and a growing selection of magazines–plus over 600,000 apps and games.

Google is taking pre-orders now and will ship the Nexus 7 in mid-July to the U.S., U.K., Canada and Australia.

Nexus Q

Apart from the Tablet “Nexus 7”, Google has unveiled a media Streaming device “Nexus Q” in the Developer I/O conference.

“Nexus Q” can connect to the TV or home theater system to wire lessly stream music and play video from cloud using Google play or YouTube. Android smartphone or tablet works as the controller. Interestingly, friends in the same room can add their own items to the playlist using their smart phones/tablets.

So, Google calls the “Nexus Q” as “The world’s first social streaming media player”.
The Nexus Q is shaped like a very small bowling ball (Diameter: 4.6 inches ) and is almost as heavy (2 pounds). It has a flat bottom for putting on tables.

“Nexus Q” operates with Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).
Right now, it supports very few applications (Google Play Music, Google Play Movies and TV, and YouTube) only.

And, it has built-in amplifier.
