Washington, D.C. police and the U.S. Navy confirm an active shooting at Southeast Washington’s Navy Yard. WJLA reports the shooting occurred at Naval Sea Systems Command. Further reports say several have been injured.
At least three people have been transported to George Washington University Hospital.
Streets in the general area of the Navy Yard are closed, including the 11th Street Bridge over the Anacostia River, which adjoins the area.
Fire and emergency crews are also responding to the scene.
The U.S. Navy said that three shots were fired around 8:20 a.m. at the Naval Sea Systems Command Headquarters building, where about 3,000 people work.
A “shelter in place” order has been issued for Navy Yard personnel, authorities said.
U.S. Capitol Police confirmed enhanced security at the Capitol, but no immediate threat.

Police are looking for the shooter. He is described as a black male with a dark complexion, approximately 5’10” to 6 feet tall, 170 pound with a black shirt and black hat. He is believed to be barricaded somewhere and have multiple guns, including an AR-15.

WASHINGTON (NNS) — An active shooter was reported inside the Naval Sea Systems Command Headquarters building (Bldg. 197) on the Washington Navy Yard at 8:20 a.m. (Eastern Time).
There is one confirmed injury. Emergency personnel are on scene and a “shelter in place” order has been issued for Navy Yard personnel.
