Russia’s new law forces terrorists’ relatives to pay for damages

Posted on November 4, 2013

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed into law a bill that forces relatives of terrorists to pay for damages caused by their attacks. It also boosts penalties for launching, participating, or financing militant or terrorist groups.

According to this new law, all damages – including moral damage – should be compensated “at the expense of the means of the person committing the terrorist act and also at the expense of the means of his/her family, relatives and close people.”

The new anti-terrorism law introduces prison terms of up to 10 years for training that is “aimed at carrying out terrorist activity”.

Winter Olympics Games will take place at Black Sea resort of Sochi looming from February 7 to 23, 2014 just a few hundred miles from the restive North Caucus region where rebels are fighting to install an Islamic state.

Russia’s this new anti-terrorism law will help to crack down on terrorism ahead of the Olympic games.
