The UN observes International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 25th November to raise awareness regarding violence against women around the world.
Google also observing “International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women” by showing white bow on it’s home page.
The day was created in 1999 by the UN General Assembly to raise awareness.The date of 25 November was chosen to commemorate the Mirabal sisters, three political activists Dominican ruler Rafael Trujillo (1930-1961) ordered brutally assassinate in 1960.
“Across the world, people are mobilising to stop the abuse of women and girls,” UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon said.
He said, “This is no longer just the concern of women’s organisations. More and more people realise that gender-based violence is everybody’s problem and that everybody is responsible for stopping it.”

As part of this they have annouced a theme “Orange the World in 16 Days”.They are inviting all to wear orange – the official colour of the UNiTE campaign.
