Jeffrey P. Bezos founder of Amazon.com was airlifted by the Ecuadorean Navy after suffering a kidney stone attack in the Galapagos Islands on New Year’s Day.
Bezos was vacationing on a cruise around the islands, when he attacked.The Galapagos lie about 600 miles west off the Ecuadorean coast.The islands are famed for their vast number of endemic species and were studied by Charles Darwin during the voyage of the Beagle.
According to the navy, Bezos was evacuated from the island by helicopter to Baltra Island where a private plane took him to the U.S. for emergency surgery.
“Galapagos: five stars. Kidney stones: zero stars,” Bezos said through a spokesman.
