LG Electronics (LG) have announced the LG Watch Urbane Luxe, a premium limited edition Android smartwatch. LG will unveil this Android smartwatch at IFA 2015 in Berlin this week.
The LG Watch Urbane Luxe is crafted with 23k gold heavy plate, an artisanally handmade Alligator wriststrap, and a mechanical deployant clasp also in 23k gold heavy plate.
Each LG Watch Urbane Luxe is presented in a piano gloss lacquered case with a signed certificate of authenticity.
It comes in brown Alligator, with additional limited edition color Alligator wriststraps available.
The unique deployment clasp which is used in this smartwatch, was invented by Louis Cartier in 1910.
The alligator band itself is handcrafted at the highest level of craftsmanship, undergoing 50 separate steps in its creation, handled lovingly by 30 experienced leather workers.
The 23-karat gold used in the LG Watch Urbane Luxe is stronger and harder than the 24-karat gold used in jewelry and heavier than the 18-karat gold used in traditional luxury watches.
“Wearable devices shouldn’t be thought of as an extension of one’s smartphone but an extension of oneself,” said Chris Yie, vice president of LG Mobile Communications Company.
“This blending of craftsmanship and technology is a natural evolution of the smartwatch, which is becoming more of a lifestyle accessory than a piece of hardware. We think this is a good direction for wearables and we want to encourage this transformation.”
LG launched LG Watch Urbane Luxe in collaboration with U.S. retail jewelry company REEDS Jewelers.
It will be available initially for pre-order at REEDS Jewelers, at the end of October or by visiting any REEDS Jewelers location. The smartwatch will retail for approximately USD 1,200.
LG will also showcase its latest smart home technology at IFA 2015 in Berlin this week to enhance the lives of consumers. LG’s new SmartThinQ Sensor can be attached to many traditional home appliances to make them “smart-aware”.
The Japanese company Sony also announced crowdfunding for its new smartwatch called ‘Wena Wrist’. This is a premium smartwatch, and its name stands for ‘wear electronics naturally’.The watch has a customizable LED light and it serves as an activity tracker. The watch will be shipped in March and April next year.
