In United States, currently Google Fiber is offering high-speed broadband and pay-TV service to compete with the existing cable companies in few cities. Now it is going to provide landline phone service too.
For $10/month, you get unlimited local and nationwide calling within U.S, and Google Voice rates apply for international calls. You can keep your old phone number, or pick a new one. You can use call waiting, caller ID, and 911 services . Fiber Phone can also make it easier to access your voicemail—the service will transcribe your voice messages for you and then send as a text or email.
Your Fiber Phone number lives in the cloud, which means that you can use it on almost any phone, tablet or laptop. It can ring your landline when you’re home, or your mobile device when you’re on-the-go.
While mobile phones have pushed us toward the future, home phone service is still important to many families. Landlines can be familiar, reliable and provide high-quality service, but the technology hasn’t always kept up. Google’s this new initiative of Fiber Phone can help to get benefits of both landline phones as well as modern Technologies.
Google will be introducing Fiber Phone in a few areas to start. Over time, it will roll out Fiber Phone as an option to residential customers in all of their Fiber cities.
Currently Google Fiber is deployed in few cities only. It is available in Austin, Kansas City and Provo, and is expected to expand to Salt Lake City, Nashville, Atlanta, Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham.
